IMSS medical units prepared to mitigate risks due to the impact of Hurricane Agatha

#InstitutoMexicanoDelSeguroSocial.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) activated protocols in hospitals in Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas and Veracruz to mitigate the effects of Hurricane Agatha, and to have a timely response to attend to the population requiring medical services.

Dr. Jorge Luis Ponce, Coordinator of Medical Programs of the Coordination of Special Health Projects, explained that, in order to have optimal conditions in the hospital units, the discharge of patients scheduled for elective surgery and those who may be in conditions under strict medical criteria for outpatient treatment is requested.

In the case of medical units located in the risk zone, it is necessary to consider increasing the capacity to receive the largest number of people who may require urgent attention.

The Social Security specialist added that in this way the capacity to receive patients in the hospitals that require it is increased. Protocols were also activated to guarantee that critical areas and lifelines are working, regardless of the intensity of the impact.
